Madisonville's New Downtown Park Close to Opening

City of Madisonville

Madisonville’s new downtown park is nearing completion. City Clerk Leslie Curneal says workers are putting the finishing touches on First United Bank Plaza, which will open with the “Celebrate Summer” event May 13th

The city started work on the $245,000 park last May. It will feature public art, picnic tables, a permanent stage, and public restrooms.

First United Bank and Trust provided a $100,000 matching grant for the park. Spokeswoman Jayne Barton says the bank hopes the park will bring more activity to downtown Madisonville.

“We have several downtown restaurants. We also have several small business owners that sell giftware and clothing that I think will benefit from the park. And vice versa, the park will benefit from the draw of the businesses,” Barton said.

The park will host the city’s annual Friday Night Live Concert Series. It is located on the site of the former city hall.
