via Twitter

Madisonville Community College is among eight community and technical colleges in Kentucky receiving grants to help students attend school in coal-producing communities.

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority is awarding a total of $366,857 dollars to schools through the Kentucky Coal County College Compensation Student Services Grant program.

Other schools include Ashland, Big Sandy, Henderson, Owensboro, Hazard, Somerset and Southeast.

The grant program was enacted during the 2014 Kentucky General Assembly.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
