Murray, KY – Kentucky State Representative Brent Yonts of Greenville has pre-filed a bill aimed at canceling an annual contract with a food services company preparing meals for Kentucky inmates. Yonts aims to put an end to the 12-million contract with Philadelphia based Aramark Correctional Services. Yonts says the food is unacceptable.

"I've had inmates tell me, as well as guards tell me, that the quantity of food is an issue of safety for them They have a picture of a food tray and the biscuit is about the size of a paper packet of sugar like you'd put in tea."

Yonts cites reports of live bugs and fecal matter found in food at several correctional facilities throughout the state. He also points to a recent massive food poisoning case at Western Kentucky Corrections Complex in Fredonia. Yonts added the issue was not presented by his son who is serving a murder sentence at the Luther Luckett Correctional facility in LaGrange. Aramark representative Sarah Jarvis says allegations about the food are based on "anecdotal" information that is not supported by the facts.
