Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says there are more people employed in the bluegrass city than at any time in the city’s history. That was one of several points made during the mayor’s annual “State of the City” speech before government, business, education, and other civic leaders.
Gray began his remarks saying he and City Council work together to further progress in Lexington.
“You know we’ve learned that potholes are not Democratic and traffic is not Republican. What’s most important is what we share, a love for our city, a fierce devotion to problem solving.”
According to Gray, Fayette County’s unemployment rate has fallen from 7.7% in 2011 to 2.8% today.
The mayor told the large crowd that rate is the lowest since 2000, and one of the lowest in the nation.?
