Two League of Women Voters forums in the region this week feature the Democratic candidates for Kentucky’s 1st U.S. Congressional District as well as other state and local primary races.
Professor Paul Walker and musician Alonzo Pennington debate in Hopkinsville on Tuesday and in Murray on Wednesday. The winner of the May 22 primary will face Republican Congressman James Comer in November.
The Hopkinsville forum is in the Municipal Building downtown. The forum also includes a debate between Republican primary candidates for Kentucky’s 4th House District - incumbent Lynn Bechler and challenger Fred Stubblefield. The winner will face Democrat Abigail Barnes in the November election. Counties in District 4 are Livingston, Crittenden, Caldwell and some of Christian.
The Murray forum is in the City Hall and also includes GOP candidates for Judge Executive (Kenny Imes and Joel Stansbury - winner faces Democrat James Gallimore in November) and the four candidates in the Mayoral race (the top two vote-getters move on to the November ballot).
Both events start at 6 p.m. Candidates will introduce themselves and will be asked questions from the moderators.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization.
