Land Between the Lakes Temporarily Closing Refuges to Accommodate Migratory Birds

landbetweenthelakes.us

Land Between the Lakes will soon temporarily seal off nine wildlife refuges to allow visiting migratory birds some undisturbed rest.

The spots include portions of Duncan, Smith and Rushing Bays on Kentucky Lake along with Lake Barkley’s Fulton and Honker Bays. The western third of Energy Lake and Long Creek Refuge at the Back of Elbow Bay will also be closed.

According to the Land Between the Lakes, low human activity is crucial for waterfowl, shorebirds and eagles to complete their move south.

All affected areas will be closed from November 1st through March 15th.
