Nine wildlife refuges at Land Between the Lakes re-open Wednesday.
Locations including Duncan, Smith and Rushing Bays close from November 1 through March 15 to allow migratory birds some undisturbed rest.
According to LBL, minimal human activity is crucial for shorebirds, eagles and waterfowl to make their move south.
Most of those birds finish the trip back north by early to mid-March.
