Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is treating for noxious and nuisance weeds along roadways this month. Among the 11 targeted plants are Johnson grass, poison hemlock and kudzu.
In a news release, KYTC says left uncontrolled these weeds could interfere with a driver’s line of vision on highways and can damage pavement and embankments and clog ditches. They can also crowd out or smother grass and native species.
KYTC are targeting these plants, in accordance to a Kentucky state law allowing for the eradication of weeds and invasives:
- Johnson grass
- giant foxtail
- Canada thistle
- nodding thistle
- common teasel
- multiflora rose
- amur honeysuckle
- poison hemlock
- marestail
- Japanese knotweed
- kudzu
