Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 engineers are testing a new supertanker today that will help keep roads clear this winter.
The rig is a SEMI mounted with a 5,000 gallon tank of brine that’s designed to quickly pre-treat four-lane highways. An average brine truck carries about 2,500 gallons of brine.
A previous one-load test covered about 65 lane miles, and a water-only run this afternoon hopes to bring that number to 100.
Motorists on I-24 eastbound lanes from Exit 11 to the Tennessee state line are advised to use caution around the new truck, which will be traveling along with a caravan of support vehicles.
For today’s test, engineers are checking travel speed and coverage rates.
