KYTC Taking a Close Look at Weather Forecasts Ahead of Scheduled Eggner's Ferry Span Placement

KYTC District 1 Facebook

A Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contractor is closely monitoring weather conditions ahead of Tuesday’s scheduled placement of the main span on the new Eggner’s Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake.

According to the KYTC, winds need to be under 10 miles per hour for placement of the 5.1 million pound, 550-foot long basket handle arch. Current forecasts indicate that winds will be at the upper end of the limit for placement.

If conditions hold, the move will close the existing Eggner’s Ferry Bridge for as long as 24 hours, beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. Boat traffic in the area will be halted for up to 48 hours.

The KYTC urges drivers to avoid the active construction zone and recommends Aurora’s Cherokee Park for viewing the placement of the span, which will take 10-12 hours.
