KY Receives Annual MSA Payment

By Carrie Pond

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky has received nearly 117 million dollars in tobacco settlement money. Attorney General Jack Conway announced the annual payment today, which comes as a requirement of the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement between tobacco manufacturers and most US states and territories. Under the MSA, tobacco companies agreed to make annual payments to the involved states and abide by certain restrictions on promotional and lobbying activity. The money is used toward a variety of state projects in areas like education, agriculture, and health care.
