KY Budget Outline

By KPR

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky House leaders have unveiled the broad outline of a new state spending plan. The proposal cuts university budgets two-percent in each year of the biennium. Universities also won't be getting money for capital projects, says House Speaker Greg Stumbo.

"They do need some M&O money. And we are going to try to get them some M&O money for the new buildings that are coming online. You know, that part of the puzzle is probably the one that's most up in the air at this point."

The budget plan, which includes no pay raises and no layoffs, except elimination of some non-merit positions, now goes before the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee. A House floor vote on the budget is expected in early March.
