KY 1st Lady Unveils Garden Plans

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear is pushing an idea she hopes takes root around the state. Beshear is planning the Governor's Garden, three small fruit and vegetable plots at the Berry Hill Mansion she's hoping other Kentuckians will copy and put in their own backyards. County extension offices around the state will carry plans for the garden. Crops grown in the garden will go to the Governor's Mansion and ACCESS soup kitchen, which provides fresh produce to Frankfort residents who wouldn't get them otherwise. The project is modeled after first lady Michelle Obama's White House garden, which she planted in March, citing the need for fresh produce for her family, staff and visitors.
