For Release: 2011-12-28 13:35:00

Next week, KET will begin a partnership with public radio stations in Kentucky to air KET series and programs. This partnership will launch initially with WEKU and WKMS. WEKU, based in Richmond, reaches nearly all of Eastern Kentucky and the Bluegrass/Central Kentucky region. WKMS, based in Murray, reaches Western Kentucky and the Four Rivers Region.

Additionally, KET is in discussions with all public radio stations in the state and will be announcing more partnerships in the coming weeks.

The partnership begins with the January 2 Kentucky Tonight program airing at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET. On this program, host Bill Goodman and guests will discuss the 2012 General Assembly. Scheduled guests include: Kentucky Senate President David Williams, R-Burkesville; Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg; Kentucky Senate Minority Floor Leader R.J. Palmer, D-Winchester; and Kentucky House Minority Floor Leader Jeff Hoover, R-Jamestown. Visit WEKU and WKMS’s websites for broadcast times.

“Our partnership with Kentucky public radio stations will strengthen the public broadcasting service for Kentuckians by expanding access to trusted signature public affairs programming,” says Shae Hopkins, KET executive director and CEO. “Access through television and radio to in-depth and impacting regional and local news is crucial, and this partnership gives Kentuckians another way to obtain the information they need to make informed decisions and learn about important issues.”

KET series and programs available to public radio stations for broadcast will include (but are not limited to): Kentucky Tonight,Comment on Kentucky, One to One with Bill Goodman, Connections with Renee Shaw, Education Matters, Jubilee, candidate forums, election night coverage and Legislative Update.

KET’s news and public affairs programs have been trusted mainstays of Kentucky politics and policy for more than 35 years. This partnership launches as KET begins covering developments in the 2012 legislative session, which begins January 3.

Says Roger Duvall, WEKU station manager: “KET has long been a national leader in programming and outreach. We are excited to expand our partnership with KET to include Kentucky Tonight in January and other programming down the road. This arrangement will be a significant boost in our ability to cover issues in-depth and is a great complement to our award-winning newsroom.”

Says Kate Lochte, WKMS station manager: “I believe our listeners will value hearing KET's Kentucky Tonight, One to One andConnections, and applaud the efficiency of this collaboration.”
