Kentucky Voter Registration Totals Reach Record High

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Kentucky has an all-time high number of registered voters. Ahead of Kentucky's primary election next month, the total comes out to about 3.2 million.

The record comes after Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes embarked on a statewide campaign to promote new voter portal GoVoteKY.com.

The site launched in March as the commonwealth’s first effort to bring the voting process online. Nearly 43,000 Kentuckians have entered the system since November’s general election, with 6,000 of those through GoVoteKY.

In a presentation at Murray State University earlier this month, Grimes said the site is in part designed to raise Kentucky's recent low turnout. About a third of voters made it to the polls in the 2015 gubernatorial race.

Kentucky's primary election is May 17th.
