Kentucky’s unemployment rate decreased nearly a full percent since last year according to statistics obtained Thursday from the Kentucky Center for Education and Workforce Statistics.
The seasonally-adjusted preliminary unemployment rate for January was 4.3 percent, down from 5.2 percent in January 2017.
The number of employed citizens rose by more than 1,000 and unemployed citizens decreased by more than 5,000.
From last December to January, sectors that saw an increase include trade, transportation, utilities, manufacturing and the government.
Sectors that saw decreases were in the leisure and hospitality, education, health services and information services.
More than 2 million citizens represent Kentucky’s civilian workforce as of January 2018.
