Kentucky Senate Running at a More Traditional Pace This Session

LRC Public Information

The pace of activity in the Kentucky senate so far in 2018 is not the same as a year ago. The 38 member senate in the first week of 2017 approved seven bills including right to work and legislative pension transparency measures, plus legislation to require an ultrasound before an abortion.

Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer says there is not the interest to act as quickly this session.

“There was a pent up need and want to get those bills passed and into law and to show the public that the Republican majority could work and that’s what we did.  Now, we have a 60 day session and back to a more traditional pace,” said Thayer.

No bills were passed in the first week of the session in the senate.  Senators are expected to cast their first floor vote Wednesday.

It likely to be legislation aimed at moving forward a sports related project at the University of Louisville.
