Kentucky is one of the least educated states in the country according to a new studyby consumer finance website Wallethub. The site determined ‘what makes a state well-educated’ by analyzing educational attainment, school quality and achievement gaps between genders and races.

Kentucky ranks in the top five states that had the lowest percentage of bachelor and associate degrees. However, the commonwealth was also ranked in the top five states that had the lowest racial gap in educational attainment. Kentucky was number 46 overall. Tennessee ranked 43, while Illinois ranked significantly higher at number 16.

Wallethub said data for their online report were collected from the U.S. Census Bureau, National Center for Education Statistics, The Chronicle of Higher Education and U.S. News & World Report.
