Kentucky's unemployment rate was slightly down last month. The Office of Employment and Training says the seasonally adjusted preliminary rate for February was 4.9%.
The rate in January was 5%. The statistics are based on workforce trends rather than the number of people employed.
“In February, our labor force increased by 0.9%,” said Kentucky Labor Market Information Director Kate Shirley Akers in a release. “And over the last year, Kentucky’s employment has increased by 3.3%.”
Kentucky's labor force went up around 19,000 people last month. Civilian labor is now at 2,044,119.
The construction saw the largest growth, followed by professional and business services and educational and health services.
The government sector including public education, administration and state-owned hospitals had the largest drop in employment.
The national seasonally adjusted jobless rate last month was 4.7%.
