Kentucky November Jobless Rate Lowest in Six Years

Kentucky's unemployment rate for November came in at its lowest rate in six years.

A state government economist says recovery from the 'great recession' is complete.

The preliminary November jobless rate stands at an even 6 percent.  It's a full 2.1 percent below the unemployment mark a year ago.  Kentucky hasn't experienced such a drop in three decades.

Manoj Shanker, with the state Office of Employment Training says over the last three months, Kentucky has added more than 32,000 jobs.

“The labor market has improved markedly in 2014," said Shanker. "The 6 percent unemployment rate is the lowest in over six and a half years."

“The 2.1 percentage point drop in November from a year ago was last seen over 30 years ago. To put that in perspective: the last time such a steep drop occurred was when Ronald Reagan was a month away from winning his second term in office and The Terminator was just released.”

Shanker says the job market has recouped all of the jobs lost during the so-called great recession.
