Kentucky’s jobless rate dropped to 5.3 percent last month, down from 5.6 percent in March, according to the state Office of Employment and Training.
The rate is identical to that recording for the state in April 2015.
OET State economist ManojShanker says while nonfarm employment statewide decreased by 4,000 jobs in April, the state did see a gain of 1,900 jobs in the public sectors of education, administration and state-owned hospitals.
The state also saw gains in the financial professional business sectors while losing jobs in the leisure-hospitality and mining and logging sectors.
The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April 2016 was 5 percent.
Last month, the Current Population Survey estimated Kentucky’s civilian labor force is more than 1,982,000.
