Kentucky Introduces GED Express Program

Adult education centers across Kentucky have started a new program to help students earn their GEDS faster.

The "GED Express" path can prepare students for the exam in as little as three weeks, compared to the traditional five to ten-week program.

The initiative looks to make progress toward the state’s overall GED pass-rate after a drop in 2012-2013.

WKCTC Adult Learning Centers will offer the option in Paducah. Adult Education Director Samantha Williams says the coursework is designed to help students with areas they’re struggling in rather than general lectures.

“Most of them have families, possibly work, other obligations," Williams said. "So we try to spend time and help them in areas that they need and not areas that they already know, and that’s what helps speed the process up.”

Williams says both WKCTC’s normal GED program and the express option are free, though the exam costs $120.

The service is available at adult education centers in all 120 Kentucky counties. Students must be enrolled in a program to qualify.
