Kentucky Educator Uses Pokemon GO! to Teach Kids Science

http://www.hookedonscience.org

A traveling western Kentucky educator is holding science classes for children based on the national gaming phenomenon Pokemon GO!

Jason Lindsey brings his class to West Kentucky Community and Technical College on Friday. Lindsey’s class uses chemical compounds and everyday household items to ‘recreate’ the fireballs and lightning bolts characters use in the game. He says connecting science to things kids already interact with can help deepen their interest in STEM education.

“Whether it be a movie or a game like Pokemon Go. And the classes tend to be pretty popular overall especially whenever you can connect with the kid and see that wonder in their eyes whenever they grasp that science connection,” says Lindsey.

Lindsey’s hands-on science projects began in Kentucky and have spread across the United States in the past year.

The class is designed for ages K through 12 and is September 2nd from 5-7 p.m.

Ebony Clark is a student at Murray State University majoring in computer science. She was born in Brownsville, Tennessee.
