Attorney General Andy Beshear is urging Kentuckians to be on guard against a "jury duty" telephone scam.

The U.S. Marshals Service recently warned the scam was sweeping the country. Beshear's office says it has received reports about the scam.

Beshear's office says the scam consists of a caller pretending to be a U.S. marshal, court worker or other law enforcement official. The caller claims the person on the line failed to appear for jury duty and must pay a fine over the phone or risk arrest.

Beshear says anyone receiving such calls should hang up.

He says similar scams have been reported this year. That includes a scam in which callers claim to be deputy sheriffs who can help people resolve a federal warrant issued against them for a fee.
