Tennessee election officials are reminding state residents the last day to register to vote for the August 4 state primary and county general election is July 5.

The Shelby County Election Commission says voter registration applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5. Mail-in applications must be postmarked by that date. Linda Phillips, the administrator of elections for the commission, says people have an extra day to register this year because the last day to register actually falls on a national holiday, July 4.

Officials say voters can register at election commission offices or online.
