Judge Recommends Lower Sentence for Soldier

By Angela Hatton

Fort Campbell, KY – A judge says he will recommend a lighter sentence for a Fort Campbell soldier convicted of murdering an Iraqi detainee. Colonel Theodore Dixon, however, denied 1st Lieutenant Michael Behenna's motion for a mistrial. A military jury last month convicted Behenna of murder and sentenced him to 25 years in prison. Behenna's attorney, Jack Zimmermann, has said he will appeal if the judge denied the motion. Colonel Dixon plans to recommend that Behenna serve no more than 18 years.
