More than 60 years after his first station went on the air, Paris, TN-native and radio broadcasting company president Jim Dick Sr. will be posthumously inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame.
Dick was born in Calloway County, KY but grew up in Paris and graduated from Grove High School in 1938.
After attending Transylvania University in Lexington, Dick began his career in radio sales in 1947 and in 1952 was granted his first federal license to build and operate a daytime-only 1,000-watt AM radio station, WIVK, in Knoxville.
For almost half a century, he was president of the Dick Broadcasting Company which at its peak included 15 stations in Tennessee, North Carolina and Alabama. He sold the company in 2000.
Along with several endowments to education, Dick founded the Joy of Music School for financially disadvantaged children in Knoxville in 1997.
Dick is one of seven broadcasters picked in the Legacy Category to be inducted during the official award ceremony scheduled for May in Murfreesboro.
