Illinoisans are casting their votes Tuesday in both the Democratic and Republican presidential primaries. Voters will also decide which candidates will meet in the general election for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Mark Kirk.
Kirk is running for the Republican nomination against entrepreneur James Marter. Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth, Chicago Urban League president Andrea Zopp and state Sen. Napoleon Harris are vying for the Democratic nomination. The seat was formerly held by President Barack Obama.
Massac County Clerk Juanita Wedeking-Newberry says early voting in Metropolis is down, with just a little more than 200 votes cast before Tuesday’s primary.
Polls in Illinois remain open until 7 p.m.
