House lawmakers still wrestling with redistricting

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo says he's still not sure if a proposal to redraw legislative district boundaries will get through the General Assembly this year. Stumbo said Monday the once-a-decade chore has stirred contention and that no agreement has been reached yet on how state House districts should be divvied up. Legislative and congressional redistricting is done after Census counts to accommodate population changes. The hope had been to get redistricting completed early in the legislative session that began last week. But Stumbo warns that may have been wishful thinking. He says he had called for a special session late last year to deal with the always contentious issue.
