Hopkinsville philanthropist and business owner Marilyn “Momma” Hays died over the weekend. She was 85 years old.

Hays was the owner of a local furniture store and the wife of the first republican mayor of Hopkinsville, Herb Hays.  U-S Representative Ed Whitfield commented that the community lost a great leader, businesswoman and friend in Hays. In 2013, then-mayor Dan Kemp declared July 12, her birthday, “Marilyn Hays Day.”

The Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home is arranging visitations and the funeral service, which are this Friday and Saturday at the Southside Church of Christ in Hopkinsville.

A proud native of Murray, Kentucky, Allison grew up roaming the forests of western Kentucky and visiting national parks across the country. She graduated in 2014 from Murray State University where she studied Environmental Sustainability, Television Production, and Spanish. She loves meeting new people, questioning everything, and dancing through the sun and the rain. She hopes to make a positive impact in this world several endeavors at a time.
