A collaboration that pairs beer and history hopes to gain interest in a new program series in Hopkinsville.

‘History on Tap’ is an effort by the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County and the Hopkinsville Brewing Company that will focus on regional history events. The series kicks off with a salute to local African American writers in honor of Black History Month.  Museums Executive Director Alissa Keller said the Brewing Company has named some of its beers after historically significant events.

“One of the ideas is to use the names of the beers as launching points for programs and discussions,” Keller said. “And we just thought it’d be really a good fit and a way to reach out and make history really accessible to the community.”

One beer called ‘Allbury’s Oatmeal Stout’ is named after a local tavern keeper who lived during the Revolutionary War. Keller said the first program is Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. All other programs will be on the fourth Thursday of each month. She said the next program will focus on women’s history.
