Hopkinsville and Christian County leaders broke ground for the East Second Street Park Tuesday on the former grounds of the Booker T. Washington Elementary School.

City Councilman of Ward One Thomas Grant said the park will feature a basketball court, a walking trail and pavilion and community center that can be rented. He says the park is “much needed” and will increase the quality of life in the community.

“It’s gonna be a game changer,” Grant said. “It’s going to change the whole structure around that. It’s just gonna change that whole area--the whole community.”

Grant said city and county officials will continue to develop the East side through economic development, education and infrastructure. He said they are going to make Hopkinsville a “city for the 21st century.”
