Hopkins Schools Sends Layoff Notifications

By Angela Hatton

Madisonville, KY – School officials in Hopkins County have begun notifying teachers who may lose their jobs at the end of the school year. Assistant Superintendent Linda Zellich says employees in the arts and humanities would be first to go, since those areas have been cut from state assessments. The district is waiting to hear if some grant-funded positions will be renewed and how much stimulus money will go to the schools. Officials will announce more information on employee contracts at the May 4 board of education meeting.
