Hopkins Schools Consider Random Drug Testing

By Angela Hatton

Madisonville, KY – Hopkins County School District officials are considering implementing a random drug testing policy for students and employees. Assistant Superintendent Susanne Wolford says the policy would apply to athletes, students that participate in extracurricular activities, and student drivers. The measure would also apply to full-time staff. Wolford says schools already practice "reasonable suspicion" drug testing. Officials plan to investigate the policy for the next two months and make a recommendation to the Board of Education in May. If implemented, the policy would go into effect next fall.
