Henry Co. School Board Opts Out of Stimulus

By Chris Taylor

Paris, TN – The Henry County Tennessee Board of Education has opted out of using government stimulus money to finance a $2.5 million dollar construction project. Despite being one of only a few handful of Tennessee schools to be approved to use the money, the board voted against it last week. The Paris Post Intelligencer reports that in order to use the stimulus funds, workers would have to be paid much higher wages, which would raise the total cost of the project by $500,000. Additionally, the state has tacked on an interest rate to the loan as an incentive to financial institutions to buy it.
