Hazel Business Owner Sues City

By Chris Taylor

Hazel, KY – An antique-shop owner in Hazel, Kentucky is suing the city seeking an injunction to prevent it from enforcing a recently-revised business licensing ordinance. Charlie's Antique Mall and Soda Fountain operator Ray Gough filed an amendment last week to a suit he originally began five years ago. Gough claims Hazel's City Council is operating illegally and has adopted ordinances without appropriate authority. He's opposed to the recent action by the City Council to require businesses to pay for licenses to operate. Gough tells the Murray Ledger and Times the ordinance will harm business because it will force him to turn over the names and addresses of the people who rent booths inside his store.
