Grimes Slated to Speak at Democratic National Convention Next Week

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes will speak at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia next week. Grimes is one of dozens of speakers added to the agenda Thursday.

The secretary of state is in her second term in office, having narrowly won re-election in November. Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton campaigned for Grimes several times in her 2014 Senate campaign challenging Senator Mitch McConnell.

The Clinton family is close with Grimes and her family, including Jerry Lundergan, Grimes' father and former chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party.

Grimes' mother, Charlotte Lundergan, is a superdelegate pledged to support Clinton.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
