Graves Students Sell Chicken Dinners, Donate $5K to Marshall Shooting Victims

Paul Schaumburg, Graves County Schools

Graves County High School students donated $5,000 to the victims of the Marshall County High School shooting on Thursday.

According to a release, students in the career and technical education programs sold around 500 grilled chicken dinners in the community on Thursday to raise the funds to benefit the victims of the shooting at Marshall County High School in January.

Representatives of the programs (that include agriculture, business, family and consumer science and media and technical education) presented the check Thursday evening at the halftime of the Graves/Marshall boys basketball game.

Proceeds to go the '#MarshallStrong' fund at Community Financial Services Bank in Benton.

GCHS agriculture teacher Richard Horn said in a follow-up release on Friday that Pilgrim's Pride donated the chicken and Crop Production Services of Sedalia sponsored the supplies and sides. He also thanked community members who helped cook and prepare the chicken.

Graves County neighbors Marshall County in far west Kentucky. A student at MCHS opened fire on classmates on January 23, killing 2 and injuring several others.
