The Graves County Fiscal Court has tabled a proposed ordinance regulating hog farms.
Judge/Executive Jesse Perry said the way the ordinance reads now, it could leave the county financially responsible for cleaning up contamination stemming from the farms. The ordinance already requires farmers to have a $1 million insurance policy for environmental clean-up.
Perry said there will be a workshop before the fiscal court’s December meeting to make sure any new measure protects the interests of all parties involved. If the ordinance is amended it will begin the reading process over again.
