Graves County alcohol petitioners are hoping Judge/Executive Jesse Perry will set a special election on packaged liquor and by-the-drink sales for January.

Vote Graves County Wet member Betsy Jones said the group submitted over 4,000 signatures this week after low voter turnout for the general election lowered the requirement. County Clerk Barry Kennemore said the required number of signatures was cut from 3,320 to 2,221. Kennemore said he hopes to finish verifying signatures by Monday, after which the judge/executive will be able to set a date for the vote.

Supporter Phil Myers said the requirement for the city petition dropped from 650 to 430 signatures. Myers said they have around 500 signatures to submit for a special election in Mayfield if the county votes no.
