Governor Beshear is expressing confidence that Kentucky lawmakers will approve heroin and dating violence legislation next week.
General Assembly members return Monday for the two final days of the 2015 session. Beshear expects passage on both pieces of legislation. "There's so much pressure from the public behind both of those bills, so that I don't really think these folks will leave here on March 24 without having accomplished both of those things," said Beshear.
The governor says he's continuing conversations with legislative leaders this week to work out an agreement on stabilizing the state's gas tax. When asked if talk about the gas tax could adversely affect gubernatorial candidates, Beshear said he's doubtful it will be an issue. "Nobody is gonna be voting to raise a tax," he said. "Whatever solution we might find won't be raising anybody's taxes, it will hopefully be at least stabilizing further drops in the road fund."
The governor says it's premature to talk about the possibility of a special legislative session.
