Gov. Bevin Appoints Madisonville Dermatologist to KRS Board of Trustees

Governor Matt Bevin appointed a Madisonville dermatologist to the Kentucky Retirement Systems Board of Trustees Friday. William F. Smith, M.D. replaces Thomas K. Elliott.

Bevin removed Elliott earlier this week seeking “a fresh start” to for the beleaguered pension system.

Smith’s term will expire March 31, 2019.

KRS Executive Director William Thielen said Bevin does not have the authority to remove Elliott. At a meeting Thursday, in which Elliott defiantly presided over, members voted to request an attorney general’s opinion on whether the governor exceeded his authority.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
