MSU President Bob Davies said in a statement, “A graduate of Murray State University, Dr. Tharpe is a fine example of our outstanding alumni. He has committed his life’s work to affording opportunities for future students. I look forward to working with him, along with our entire Board of Regents, as we continue our work to advance this fine institution.”

Tharpe is from Nicholasville and will serve for a term expiring in June 2023. He fills the vacancy created upon the expiration of Jenny Sewell’s term.
