Books we're reading at the station and recommend to you.When we're not on-the-air or at our desks, we like to pick up good books. Most of us here at the station are, in fact, avid readers. In the style of NPR's "What We're Reading" (an excellent weekly guide) we, too, decided to share what we've been reading. Good Read: Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick

If you're gearing up for some holiday shopping for a child in middle school or anyone who enjoys a simply good read, consider picking up this week's recommended read, Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick, from Katherine Farmer, Coordinator of the Racers Children's Preview Collection at Murray State University.

Do you ever wish that the life that you lived was different?

Do you ever wish that you could find your place in the world?

Separated by fifty years, Rose and Ben independently through words and pictures lead the reader through a chain of events as they set out on a quest to find what each was missing. Ben's story created in words described his quest to find his father that the never knew after the tragic death of his mother. His discovery of a clue in his mother's room sets him on a journey that he will never forget. Rose's story portrayed in the beautiful world of pictures describes her dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she records in a scrapbook. Her quest begins with the discovery of an exciting headline in the newspaper. Each journey out in the world alone but each discover in this beautifully crafted story where they belong and what each is missing.

Two children's quests for their place in the world are beautifully told in the novel Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick. In the theme of magical world of pictures and words of his debut novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Brian Selznick has once again created a worthy tale of discovery in his latest work Wonderstruck. The author creates an amazing harmony in the intertwining of the two tales as the story unfolds.
