Books we're reading at the station and recommend to you. When we're not on-the-air or at our desks, we like to pick up good books. Most of us here at the station are, in fact, avid readers. In the style of NPR's "What We're Reading" (an excellent weekly guide) we, too, decided to share what we've been reading. Here's a list of books recently read by WKMS staff members, student workers and volunteers.Interested in a book on our list? Follow the Amazon link beneath the picture. Good Read: Together by George Ella Lyon

Summer is a great time to pick up some good reads! Our Good Reads for Kids Series continues with a book for the younger ones this week, Together by Kentucky Author George Ella Lyon, illustrated by Vera Rosenberry. This book review was brought up to the station by Sandy Linn, Youth Services and Acquisitions Librarian for the Calloway County Public Library.

From Publisher's Weekly:

The lilting cadence of Lyon's rhymed couplets and her catchy refrain ("Let's put our heads together and dream the same dream") are hard to resist--readers who try this book aloud are likely to find themselves snapping fingers or bouncing to the beat. The poem celebrates friendship, and in the whimsical world evoked by the illustrations, two girls--one black, one white--build a cabin, make a giant-sized ice cream sundae and put out a dragon's flame, among many other activities. Rosenberry's fanciful details add a pixieish touch to this spirited poem. Ages 4-6.
