From across the pond comes some of Cambridge's best actors and actresses, here to help celebrate GlemaMahr Center for the Arts' 25th season with a performance of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. Madisonville Community College's GlemaMahr Center for the Arts is celebrating its 25th season with a series of free admission events, kicking off with a Cambridge American Stage Tour (CAST) production of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew.
CAST is a group of Cambridge University students with a passion for the arts, performing their way each summer through the United Kingdom, across the Atlantic and through America's eastern seaboard and Midwest. This is the group's fourth time partnering with Glema.
The event will take place, not at the Glema Center, but in Madisonville City Park on Saturday, September 12 at 2 p.m. If raining, the group will perform at the Glema Center.
The event kicks off a series of free events celebrating Gelma's 25th anniversary. On Halloween night, Glema will host a Halloween Movie Night Double Feature, beginning with Trunk or Treat and a costume contest and showing the movies Monsters Inc. and Beetlejuice.
The free admission series will culminate in A Community Christmas, reigning in the holiday season on Friday, December 4 with community ensembles and singers.
Glema's regular Center Stage Series, with tickets on sale now, opens September 18 with the Oakridge Boys, a huge hit when they came to the Glema Center in the Spring of 2001. Following on October 2 is Say Goodnight Gracie, the one-man-show tribute to the Golden Era and story of George Burns and Gracie Allen.
Guy Penrod, Southern gospel singer and former lead vocalist for the Gaither Family Vocal Band, follows on November 7, and the Thodos Dance Chicago will perform Light in the Dark?, a narrative dance about Hellen Keller and Anne Sullivan, on November 21.
The last Center Stage event this season comes December 11 with a Swing'n the Holidays with the Jive Aces, one of Britain's top swing bands from Britain's Got Talent.
