Funds Not Available for School Renovations
By Carrie Pond
Clarksville, TN – Montgomery County, TN commissioners will vote next week on whether or not to fund approximately 20 million dollars in renovations to Montgomery Central High School, but it appears likely the project will be put on hold until next year. During yesterday's non-voting meeting, school officials detailed their plans to renovate the approximately 40-year-old structure, including security upgrades and electrical system improvements. County Public Information Officer Elizabeth Black says commissioners are supportive of renovations, but they are hesitant to invest in them now. Black says the project will likely be delayed due to a tough budget year and fear the funds just aren't there. School Communications Specialist Michelle Newell says without help from the county, the school will be unable to begin renovations. Commissioners will officially vote on the proposal during their formal meeting next Monday.
