Front Page Sunday 9/14

WKMS News’ regional political coverage continues with two forums originally aired last week.  First, Paducah and McCracken County residents decide next month whether or not to combine their two governments.  It’s a contentious issue, and we’ll sort out the pros and cons with Paducah businessman John Williams, Jr. and McCracken County Judge-Executive Van Newberry on today’s program.

We’ll also hear the next installment in our series of discussions with the candidates running for our region’s seats in the Kentucky General Assembly.  Republican Richard Heath and Democrat Kelly Whitaker are vying for the 2nd District State House seat.  They came to our studios to talk about the issues the district faces and their ideas for Kentucky’s future.  Those conversations are coming up today on Front Page Sunday from WKMS News. 

(1.) PADUCAH/MCCRACKEN CO. MERGER DISCUSSION -- This past Monday, WKMS News brought you a live discussion of the pros and cons of a proposal on the ballot this fall to consolidate the governments of the City of Paducah and McCracken County.  I moderated the conversation between McCracken County Judge-Executive Van Newberry and Paducah businessman John Williams, Jr. at Murray State’s Crisp Center in Paducah, and present it today, edited for time. 

(3.) 2ND DISTRICT STATE HOUSE CANDIDATE FORUM -- On Friday candidates for Kentucky’s second district state house of representatives met in the second of our 5 planned forums this month. Democrat Kelly Whitaker and Republican Richard Heath joined me for a forum on issues facing the second district which encompasses all of Graves County and southern McCracken.
