Freight Train Derails in Downtown Paducah

Paducah Police Department

A Canadian National Railway freight train derailed in Paducah early this morning, closing Little Avenue in the city’s south side.

Paducah and Louisville Railway president Tom Garrett says eight empty lumber cars derailed around 9:50 a.m., including four cars that fell onto their sides.

No one was injured and the cause is under investigation. Garrett says he expects the derailment to be cleaned up around 9 p.m. and Little Avenue to reopen sometime today.

Garrett says it’s hard to tell how damaged the tracks are until the cars are upright but he anticipates there will be minimal, if any, damage.
