Metropolis, IL – Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis is now fully open for the first time in nearly five months after the January ice storm left it in ruins. Park Superintendent Terry Johnson told says that major work clearing the largest part of the park's day use area of broken and dangling limbs has been completed. Many segments of the park had been closed due to dangerous hanging limbs. Fort Massac is a historical recreation of an 1802 American fort overlooking the Ohio River.
